MPI – VA Chapter Member Profile -  Abby Tammen
Abby Tammen
Organization: Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS
Title: Senior Director of Programs & MLS Operations

Summary of Position: As a senior staff member I am responsible for management of a $1 million budget and a staff of 3 people.  I manage real estate licensee pre- and post- education including instructor selection, program development, program licensing applications, on-line providers, registration processes, record maintenance, and execution of classes.  I manage logistics for all Association events such as trade shows, business summits, board meetings, staff retreats, and networking socials including site searches, contracting, audio visual, marketing, and food & beverage.

Additionally, I oversee the platform and related technology vendors to provide the Multiple Listing Service for 1,100+ users. In 2014 I managed the platform conversion process including vendor selection, platform development, and user testing and training.                             

Best thing about job: Partnering with my staff and our various volunteers to deliver meaningful programs and events that help our REALTOR members serve their clients better.                    

Volunteer positions:Committee member - MPI Virginia Chapter Nominations Committee; Vice Chair - VSAE Conference Task Force

Previously served MPI Virginia Chapter in various positions including President (2005), Director, Vice President of Finance, Director of Sponsorship, Director of Leadership Development, Annual Conference Chair, and many more.

Event horror story: I always worry about running out of food.  I can remember a formal event for 150+ people where we were short 50+ seats because attendees brought unregistered guests to the event.  I can still see 2 dozen hotel staff rapidly dropping tables, linen, and service ware in record time to try to accommodate everyone. My CEO was even in the kitchen helping to plate food. As a result, I am an avid proponent of registered attendees using tickets or being scanned into individual events to ensure we are prepared for the right number of people.   

Hobbies: spending time with my husband and twin daughters Ava & Emily; crafting; teaching Sunday School; serving as President of my Home Owners Association Board of Directors; and occasionally enjoying the various stops on the Virginia. 

Husband/Wife/Kids/Pets: husband Doug; twin daughters Ava & Emily (age 5) 

Pet Peeve: Lack of communication - event details and expectations change; it's always easier to manage the changes with your team and your third-party providers when you keep the dialogue open.
