Annual Conference 2017 Call for Speakers!
MPI Virginia is excited to announce that the call for speaker participation proposals is now open for its 2017 Annual Education Conference. Scheduled for August 16-18, 2017 at the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, it promises to be MPI-VA’s most innovative, interactive and exciting event of the year!

The Annual Education Conference is MPI-VA’s signature event through which we deliver premier education, business connections and networking opportunities to the most vibrant community of meeting and event professionals in Virginia.

We know our membership is full of dynamic subject matter experts and this is your opportunity to share your talent with other event professionals. We’re looking for speakers that engage people as active participants in the learning experience. Will there be breaks for group discussions or activities? What percentage of the session will be dedicated to helping people apply knowledge, analyze situations and discuss their ideas? You have the opportunity to engage and educate in new ways. Your fellow event pros want to be inspired and motivated so they can achieve the same results with the meetings they plan.

These are the major educational areas of focus for Annual Conference 2017:
• Strategic Meeting Design (food & beverage, Strategic Meetings Management, core skills, etc).
• Technology (social media, interactive technology, mobile experience, etc)
• Transitioning from Meeting Supplier to Strategic Partner (become a creative resource for planners, nurturing business relationships, proving ROI, etc.)
• Security and Risk Management
• Marketing (strategies, tools and tactics)

Our goal is to showcase speakers who:
• Surprise and delight our audience
• Provide actionable takeaways that people can apply to their work
• Create interactive environments that enhance learning
• Present original, relevant and thought-provoking content
• Are excited to be in front of MPI-VA’s audience of meeting and event professionals

Submissions for Annual Conference 2017 will close on March 27, 2017.

MPI – VA Chapter Member Profile - Anna Fitzgerald

Name: Anna Fitzgerald
Title: Catering & Event Sales Manager
Organization: Craddock Terry Hotel and Event Center & the Virginian Hotel (opening fall of 2017) both in Lynchburg, VA

Best thing about job: Getting to meet all different kinds of people and doing all kind of events. One day it is a corporate board meeting for 10, the next is a wedding for 200.

Volunteer positions: Grassroots, it is a community owned and operated cooperative grocery store set to open in 2017.

Event horror story: Oh yes, there have been horror stories! With every event you live and you learn but the most serious one was when I first became involved in events. I was directing a wedding where the Grandfather of the Bride had a portable oxygen tank he had to use. The family came to me 30 minutes before the ceremony and said that his oxygen tank was low and they needed to get him to an emergency room ASAP! The oxygen tank had like 15 min left before it ran out however, we were 20+ minutes away from the nearest hospital. We had to call 911 and hide the fact that there was an ambulance & fire truck while guests were arriving. The Grandfather had to miss the ceremony, but was able to attend the reception with a full oxygen tank and the guests had no idea!

Hobbies: Running, biking, hiking, anything to be outdoors in the spring-fall months. In the winter time, you will most likely find me binge watching Netflix!

Husband/Wife/Kids/Pets: No hubby but a wonderful boyfriend of 3 years, Landon. We have two fur babies, Diesel and Whitey. Diesel is an 11-year old Miniature Pincher and Whitey is an 8-year-old White Boxer.

Pet Peeve: The toilet paper goes over not under! If I am in a bathroom and I see the toilet paper the “wrong” way I fix it, it doesn’t matter where I am!
