From the MPI Blog:

MPI, the world’s largest association for meeting and event professionals, and IACC, the only association to globally certify conference- and meetings-focused venues, announced Tuesday a global partnership that will focus on areas such as education and research initiatives.

“This is the next big thing,” said Alex Cabañas, IACC president. “Meeting planners are starving for unique places to go. This brings together the best meeting planners in the world with the best venues in the world.”

The five-year global partnership between the two associations will include sharing event and learning platforms, including education delivered at annual conferences, regional events and online, as well as research initiatives.

MPI Virginia Member Profile - Veronica Thompson, CMP

Name:
Veronica Thompson, CMP
Title: Owner / Strategic Meetings and Special Events Producer
Organization: VIBEvents Group LLC

Best thing about job: The best thing about my job is being able to be more efficient for others and help them reach their goals and objectives.  Whether it is a corporate or social event, at the end of the day my goal is for them to just be fully present and enjoy their event, without having to be directly involved. I feel that I’ve been given the gifts of organization and planning and I want to use those to help make other people’s lives/jobs less stressful.

Volunteer positions: I volunteer with Susan G. Komen, The LIKE Fund, Greater24 and I am very involved in my church at Chesapeake Community of Hope.

Event horror story: The very first social event I did, as my own business, was a wedding.  As the pastor asked everyone to please stand and I was starting to open the doors for the bride, I heard a crashing sound.  As a gentleman stood, he pushed his chair into one of the tall, water filled vases holding a floating candle.  The vase fell into the aisle and shattered all over the floor, flooding the aisle!  I turned to the bride, with the look of horror all over her face.  Calmly I told her everything was fine and it would just take a moment.  The gentlemen were moving the broken glass to the side and after a short time, the music resumed and she was able to walk down the aisle.  Being able to keep calm myself and reassuring the bride everything was fine, kept her calm.  As I tell all of my clients….there is probably going to be something happen, but hopefully they will never know or hear about it, because I’ve already taken care of resolving it. Unfortunately, this day, everyone knew about it.  Everything ended well though and they loved their wedding!

Hobbies: Reading, going to the beach, hiking, riding my bike and hanging out with friends playing cards/games

Husband/Wife/Kids/Pets: I have a wonderful husband, Mark, who is a partner in my business with me.  We have 5 children ranging in ages of 17 – 28 and we have a cat, Socks, who acts more like a dog!

Pet Peeve: Professionals not responding to emails or phone calls regarding business!
