Tired of the Talking Head?

By Tara Liaschenko, CMM

You can’t argue with facts.

Experiential programs enhance the learning experience by integrating and enriching knowledge, comprehension, development, and retention.

Movement/Physical Activity. According to Dr. John Ratey (Harvard Medical School professor and one of the world’s foremost authorities on the brain-fitness connection) “Exercise is really for the brain; not the body.” And Jennifer Cohen (executive and entrepreneur wellness coach and Forbes contributor) says there are 6 ways movement makes us smarter:

1. Increases energy

2. Sharpens focus

3. Enhances mood

4. Helps impulse control

5. Improves memory

6. Increases productivity

Crowdsourcing/Collaborative Co-Creation. We’ve all heard the phrase “two heads are better than one.” And in today’s world that statement has definitely become truth. According to, “… by the beginning of 2014, hundreds of the world’s largest enterprises had adopted crowdsourcing practices.” Why? Because it works. Using the power of more than one brain in problem-solving provides better -- and sometimes more -- solutions.

I’d like you to meet: Solution Circle

Solution Circle is a customizable program for any meeting or conference that embraces and leverages the above facts. It’s an experiential program that incorporates movement and collaborative co-creation in small groups to solve individual challenges. Those challenges can be broad or specific in nature, depending on the goal of the session (personal, job-specific, departmental, industry-related). And while the challenges are individual, several participants in these small groups face the same issue. So they walk away from the experience with more than one solution.

If you’re tired of the talking head and you want an opportunity to:

1.       Solve a Challenge

2.       Benefit from the brains of others

3.       Experience a program that automatically makes you smarter through movement

4.       Learn a program you can use in your office or at your next meeting or conference

Catch Tara at MPI Virginia's 2017 Annual Conference on August 16-18th!

MPI – VA Chapter Member Profile - Fagel Baer

Fagel Baer
Organization: Ferguson Enterprises
Title: Corporate Meeting and Event Planner

Best thing about job: I love being able to travel with our groups to exciting destinations to plan memorable experiences!

Volunteer positions: N/A, but I do also work at a Hot Yoga Studio and am the Social Coordinator for CLUBWAKA which is a local social sports league, this doesn’t leave much time for anything else.

Event horror story: I was planning quite a few travel programs for a previous company – my team of three had 90 events (which all took place in different cities) to execute within three months and we frequently had overlapping events. I had two events on the same night; I was in one city and my colleague was covering the other city. I was so overwhelmed with the quantity and frequency of these events that I had forgotten to book catering for the event that my colleague was at. I had to troubleshoot that event and quickly get things worked out, while still trying to run everything at the event I was onsite for. Needless to say, it was a long night!

Hobbies: I love hot yoga and Orangetheory Fitness and I’m the Social Coordinator for CLUBWAKA. In whatever spare time I have, I love to travel, walk the Noland Trail, go to breweries, go hiking, and binge watch whatever new show is on Netflix.

Husband/Wife/Kids/Pets: I have a black cat named Moose.

Pet Peeve: People who don’t use turn signals, people who don’t turn their headlights on during the rain, people who leave shopping carts in the middle of the parking lot, people who spend too much time on gym equipment when they’re really taking just pictures, people who don’t eat vegetables…I could go on!

Favorite joke:

How do you host a space party?
